  • About Us

    Present

We are a family church affiliated with the Evangelical Alliance and the 'Celebration Churches' Network in Bristol.

We have a congregation of about 400 people from across the age groups shared between three services, two on Sunday morning and on Sunday evening too. Our style of worship is fairly informal, using a mixture of contemporary and traditional songs, accompanied by a band. Crèche facilities are available in both morning services and during the 9.15am service only, there are groups for children and young people. We have a wide range of activities during the week for all ages from small groups to craft groups and there is a full children's and youth programme.

    Past

In 1747 Christians known as Baptists held services in Thornbury. The church building (now the youth block), was opened in May 1789 and was used for worship until 1989 when the new building (the main church centre) was completed.

During the early years, several other churches were planted out from the church, most of which are now running independantly. We also played a major role in the building and running of the sheltered housing accommodation on land next door to the church, Rockleaze. This was opened in 1986 and is also now run independently.

Over the years, we have seen God working in the church as we have grown from just a handful of people to the thriving community we thank God for today and we trust Him as we look to the future.

    Future

We really appreciate our history and all that God has done in and through this community of Christians and, as we look to the future, three important thoughts form our view of what it may hold for us.

Firstly, our hope and desire is to continue becoming followers of Jesus. He is our role model, our teacher and our Lord and the call to follow him and grow in faith and the love of God, is the Christian call.

Secondly, we are committed to becoming an authentic Christian community. Learning to live together in community is the key way of fulfilling the call to love others and a powerful means of communicating the love of God to a world that is hungry for God’s love.

Thirdly, we are committed to sharing the love of God with our local community and anywhere else God leads us. The greatest commandment, according to Jesus, is to love God with everything we have and the next commandment is to love our neighbours as ourselves. This means we are dedicated to sharing the gospel, in action, in word, and in lifestyle so that people can get a glimpse of Jesus. We believe that God’s future for us has at its heart these three things - discipleship, community and mission.
