About Us

About Us

We are a family church, located in Thornbury an historic market town about 15 miles north of Bristol in South Gloucestershire.

Our life as a Christian family is shaped by a longing to grow in our:

  • Love for God – learning together what it means to grow in God’s love, to receive his grace and love and to walk in his presence every day.
  • Love for one another – serving one another, praying for one another, caring for one another, encouraging one another and teaching one another.
  • Love for the world – supporting one another in our attempts to share God’s love in word and deed in our everyday lives.

We meet on Sunday mornings for informal worship, teaching and prayer. Groups for children and young people are available during the service as well as a crèche.

During the week we have a number of small groups which are an important part of our community life. We have a wide range of activities for all ages from sports groups and Lunch Club to craft groups and there is a full children’s and youth programme.

Christians calling themselves Baptists have been meeting in the town since 1747. The old church building was opened in May 1789 and was used for worship until 1989 when our new building was completed. Over the years, we have seen God working in and through the church as we have grown from just a handful of people to a thriving community. We really appreciate our history and all that God has done in and through this community of Christians. As we look to the future, we believe that God is still at work today and that the best is yet to come!

We are linked into the Woodlands Network of Churches in the Bristol region and are members of the Evangelical Alliance and subscribe to their basis of faith.

A short statement on our beliefs about marriage and human sexuality can be found here. We warmly commend the perspective and resources made available by the ‘Living Out’ organisation. You can find more on their website here.
