We are embarking on an exciting new stage in our growth with a significant new building extension and a range of new facilities designed with both Church members and the local community in mind.
What we are doing
In 2024 we are building a brand new, two-story extension on unused land at the rear of the Church. We also have a range of enhancements planned for the current building.…This will give us two attractive 55-seater multi-purpose rooms. At the same time we are improving the front entrance, renewing the kitchen and toilets, and relocating our sound and projection desks and streaming control centre.
Why?
Thornbury is growing and so is TBC.…Our original chapel was built in 1789 and is still in active use. We added the current main building and auditorium in 1989, significantly increasing our capacity. Now, with the Church continuing to grow and with the dramatic increase in the size of Thornbury town, we are bursting at the seams! This project provides vital extra space so we can accommodate our new Church members and at the same time increase the range and scope of services we can provide to the people of Thornbury.
What will be impacted?
Facilities for all of our week-day activities as well as Sunday services.…The Church is the busy and vibrant centre of a wide range of activities. This project will enable us to accommodate more members and visitors at Church services. We will be able to increase the number of people coming to groups such as the Mums’ and Toddlers’ Group, Seniors’ Lunch Club and weekday Family Café. We will have space to expand our Debt Advice and Foodbank services, as well as the scope and range of Sunday youthwork and mid-week youth clubs.
How?
How it will all come together?…Following a wide-ranging consultation phase, plans and designs have been developed and a final version chosen. Planning consent has been applied for and £828,000 of funding is currently being sought. We hope to start work in Spring 2024 and work will last about nine months. We will be working hard to minimize any disruption to Church services and community activities. The whole project is being managed by an experienced construction Project Manager and professional sub-contractors will be used throughout the process.
Funding
Always the hard part! How far we have got and how you can help.…
Grant awarding bodies and Local Government have been approached to support the project, but we believe that the bulk of the cost will been raised by all of us, the people of Thornbury.
